FlinthillsFix: Easy Feral Shelter

Low Cost, Easy to Make Feral Shelter

Styrafoam shipping container (cooler size or smaller)
Contact Paper
Duct Tape
Hay
Scissors

Takes less than one hour to complete

1. Cut a 6 inch X 6 inch opening into one side of the styrafoam container.

2. Line the inside of the container with contact paper - this prevents the cats from scratching the styrafoam sides.

3. Cut 5 inch strips of duct tape and place around opening of container.

4. Fill container 3/4 full of loose hay - cats will burrow in.

5. Wrap container with duct tape - twice around the sides and twice around the front.

6. If you are placing your feral shelter in a public area - get permission from the owner and/or groundskeepers/custodial staff.

7. Cover your shelter with limbs and branches - fill in with grasses and leaves - blending it into the landscape as much as possible.

8. Periodically check on your shelters - refilling with hay or replacing as needed.
